How I dramatically decreased my electric bill

The average family spends $114 a month on their electric bill.
There was a point in time where I wished that was our electric bill…
Not only has my wish been granted but I have managed to get my electric bill almost half of what it used to be!

Don’t get me wrong, some months are worse than others.
But, the more I get used to my own madness…. the lower my bill will be.

A few tips on how you can start saving on your electric bill TODAY.

Yes, that is a clipping from my electric bill!
This is in the summer… to boot!
The summer time has always been a struggle for us because of the pool… A/Cs… ect.

The first thing we did was replace all our light bulbs with LEDs… that was in April. (we bought these, a little pricey… but worth the money! I saved what I spent on those light bulbs the first month! Plus they last 20+ years!)

There’s a video on youtube that shows the difference between a LED bulb and a regular one.
It shows how much more efficient LEDs are.
Check it out!

Second, we got automatic solar lights for outside, just an added bonus that our furbaby doesn’t have to poop in the dark 😛 (we got ours from Harbor Freight, not so great, but these are practically the same thing, just better quality 🙂 )

It was really annoying everytime the wind blew and our flag would signal one of our lights on… now it doesn’t bother me so much!

Third, we use the dryer… sparingly.
We hang our clothes up year round.
We only use it to get the stiffness out of our clothes… (mainly in the winter)
It’s time-consuming… but time is money.

And most importantly, we treat everything as a dollar sign.
Everytime you leave a light on… your charger plugged in… or your Scentsy burner plugged in.. it’s costing you money.
Although it’s not much money, it’s money.
Stop leaving your microwave plugged in… it’s not something you use around the clock.
I’ve heard people say.. “but I have the time set on it…”

…. what? Buy a clock!

Same goes for your coffee maker.. toaster.. everything.
It’s time to unplug and only plug in when you’re using it.
Everything that is on/plugged in is just sucking money out of your pocket!

My husband calls me cheap, but am I really?

Whenever I go to someone’s house and they have every light on in the house… it drives me nuts.
I mean, there’s nothing I can do about it because it’s not my money but it’s just mind-boggling.

Personal goal: I can’t wait to invest in solar panels!

Let’s recap

First, switch to LED light bulbs.
Use your dryer sparingly.
And unplug everything… (Except your fridge of course 😉 )

My bill will only get lower and lower the more I get used to it.
and that just puts a smile on my face 🙂
